Principal’s Message Vol.73 – Sept 2016
Dear IslandCA Community, 你好!
We as a staff are currently reading and discussing an inspiring book: “In the Heart of a Child, One Moment . . . Can Last Forever – JUST A MINUTE” . It is quite powerful in bringing to our attention that an apt gesture or word at a crucial time can have an impact on a child for the rest of their lives. As teachers we have many ‘minutes’, with many children during a day, to influence them positively. As parents, caregivers, grandparents, you also have many minutes to influence your children, and their friends as well. What a privilege! We can all “set a child on course for a promising future, secure in the knowledge that they are loved” by us all and by God.
Between the last newsletter and this, you will have received the positive letter and FAQ’s from our Executive Director regarding the Middle School. This last Saturday IslandCA took part in the International Schools Festival 2016. I had first-hand experience of the fact that ‘supply outweighs demand’ at year 10 and up, as I had a number of school heads talk to me, keen to take our students at the end of year 9. My huge thanks to IslandCA staff, parents and students for manning the IslandCA booth throughout the day on Saturday. Year 6 and 7 students Ollie, Chloe and Fred were stars! Ollie, in particular, has great potential in marketing and sales!
Teachers look forward to meeting with parents / caregivers at the Parent Teacher Conferences tomorrow. At this time of the school year it is important for parents / caregivers to communicate with teachers about their child(ren). The interviews with classroom teachers are 15 minute slots with a 5 minute break in between. For specialist teachers there are 10 minute slots with a 5 minute break in between. If you need more time than is allocated, you are welcome to arrange to meet at another time. Please also be mindful that meetings that go over time upset the schedule for the teacher (and other parents) for the rest of the day.
I pray that all of our IslandCA community will have a refreshing break over the Chung Yung Festival public holiday and the school mid term break that follows.
May God Bless You,
