Principal’s Message Vol.71 – Sept 2016

Dear IslandCA Community, 你好!

It seems to be unanimous among the parents and staff that the school vibe and spirit is very good. My thanks to God, staff, parents and students for contributing to the wonderful spirit that is evident.

It was great to see so many of you at the Parent information Night. We had two packed hall meetings; firstly for the year 3—7 parents and then for the year 1 and 2 parents. The PTA representatives spoke; staff were introduced, and parents were reminded of highlights from the last school year and informed of new things to look forward to this year.

I highlighted that this year we: will develop a Student Council, use the new Journey 2:52 Christian Curriculum, have more performance opportunities, including a Christmas musical “The Christmas Jigsaw”, enjoy the use of enhanced facilities, use the new sound system and have our first year 7 programme. We have a special enrichment programme for the year 7s including community service, careers training, leadership initiatives, etc. Relevant staff will undertake training in the International Middle Years Curriculum. I also mentioned that this year I invite parents to drop in for a cuppa and a chat between 8 and 8.30 every morning in the new leaders’ hub on the first floor. This will start on Monday morning, September 5th.

This morning we had a short meeting for parents of year 5—7 students regarding the development of the middle years (junior secondary) programme. We are so thankful that all the hard work with the EDB and Lands department by Mrs Maidment (GenCE E. D.) has paid off and our situation is positive, with current approval for “not for profit primary and secondary usage”. We have our first year 7 cohort this year, and are working on approval for year 8 and 9 for the following years while continuing to look for alternative spaces when we reach enrolment capacity. The Board continues to look for an alternative site, along with the vision for innovative use of our current site and space in the local community. Our aim is to give regular updates on middle years progress.

If you have any input regarding the improvement and development of the school, please feel free to telephone, or come to the first floor for a chat, or talk before or after school when picking up your child (ren).

Looking forward to a great year!

Debbie Middleton,
