NIS looks forward to offering parents many more workshops this year related to learning, parenting, and understanding children’s holistic growth.
During these past few weeks, students at NIS have been learning all about how learning happens, and how they can become better learners through our first IPC unit: Brainwaves. Some of the older students looked more in-depth at how this happens and discovered that neurons in the brain make connections with each other, and when we learn things, the connections multiply and become stronger. Therefore you can think of the brain as a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.
With all this that the students are learning about their brains and learning, we thought it would be a great time for our first Parent Workshop to introduce the book “The Whole-Brain Child” by neuropsychiatrist Dr. Daniel Siegel and parenting expert Tina Bryson.
Through a series of videos and discussion, Daniel and Tina will talk about how children’s brains mature over time, and will share twelve key strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. They will take a look at everyday parenting struggles (such as tantrums, fights and silent sulking), and give you strategies to turn these moments into opportunities to help your child thrive.
