Principal’s Message Vol.69 – June 2016

Dear IslandCA Community,

A lot has happened in the final 2 weeks of school since the last newsletter– pool parties, exit points, report writing, year book release, volunteers’ thankyou morning tea, concerts, honouring our first cohort of year 6 students – and finally today we celebrate the last day of the school year.
We farewell some students and staff, but in most cases—after a well earned break – we look forward to renewing friendships again.

Thank you for the wonderful comments from the parents who attended the concerts last week. Thank you to the teachers and students who made it all happen. I enjoyed seeing the broad smiles of the audience as they watched the ‘Goliath Jazz’ musical performed by 90 students and as they were treated to the sweet, melodious solo singers.

I am grateful for what our new choir teacher and volunteer parent accompanist have achieved with the 50-strong choir ECA in the half-year since Mrs. Cheung arrived at IslandCA.
The variety of the instruments, the versatility of the students, the hard work of the teacher in arranging the pieces was very much in evidence from the eight musical ensembles—five of them whole classes.
As usual, our drama co-ordinator worked well with her cast to produce a polished ‘Wizard of Oz’. It was quite a smorgasbord.
For further information see the write-up and photo’s later in this newsletter.

The volunteers’ morning tea was an opportunity for staff to provide food for parents and other volunteers who have served the school community so well over the last year.
I pray for safety and God’s blessings upon our staff, students and families over the break.

‘May the LORD bless you and protect you.
May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you.
May the LORD show you his favour and give you his peace.’
(Traditional Gaelic Blessing from Numbers 6:24-26)
