Principal’s Message Vol.51 – June 2015
Dear Island CA Community, 您好.
The representative from the Council of International Schools (CIS) was most impressed with our school: the teaching and learning, organisation, school climate, students, staff and so on. He said he enjoyed himself immensely, and thinks that the school compares very favourably with other schools that have been in operation for the same time as ours. We will receive a letter shortly acknowledging that CIS membership has been conferred on Island CA. The CIS Membership Standards are attached to this newsletter; read that attachment to get some idea of all the things he looked at, and the high standards that our school has met in order to be a CIS member school.
I am pleased to report that development planning for our Middle School is progressing. The architects and designers are currently working on the redesign of the 7th and 8th floors and other requirements, such as additional toilet facilities, which will become needed with an expansion of this size. Alongside this, discussions are taking place and applications being lodged with several government departments. All this is in order to have the middle school start at our Bridges Street site the year after next for our cohort of current year 5 students. We are also making progress in our provision for the time when the middle school will outgrow our current site. One of the other sites under investigation and negotiation is another site owned by CYMCA. A feasibility study was recently discussed at a joint Generations / CYMCA meeting. As I announced a few months ago, the International Middle Years Curriculum that will be used will prepare students to go on to gain any European, American or Australasian University Entrance qualification, such as the IB Diploma programme, IGCSE or Advanced Placement. Please pray for wisdom, favour and foresight in making the right decisions regarding this expansion programme.
Once again, thank you for contributing to a really fabulous year of learning and fun for our students. As this is the last school newsletter for the year I wish you a great, safe, blessed holiday. I look forward to welcoming you back at the start of the new school year .
