Principal’s Message Vol.70 – Aug 2016
Dear IslandCA Community, 你好!
A big welcome to Island Christian Academy for the 2016/17 school year!
Welcome to all our new families; we trust that you are making new friends, meeting old ones and navigating your way successfully in becoming part of a new school community. Welcome back to all our returning families. I am sorry I haven’t seen much of you in the last couple of days, due to back problems; however, I am feeling a lot better now.
Welcome to the first and so far only school in Hong Kong to be recognised as an IPC accredited school for our implementation of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC)! It was wonderful to receive this news during the school holidays. Thank you once again to the IslandCA community for helping make this happen at least a year earlier than is expected in new schools. Extra special thanks to Joy Penner, the IPC co-ordinator, in the front line, making it all happen.
Our students are very happy with the transformation in the new ground floor covered playground. The climbing wall and safety flooring has been a long time in the planning, but it is great to see it all finished, and students climbing along it. The bright new open playground safety flooring makes quite a difference as well. Have a look at the photos further on in the newsletter. A big thank you to Philippa for the design, planning and ultimate supervision of contractors throughout the holidays, including weekends, to get it all completed in time.
Some rooms have had a makeover. The first floor group room is now the leadership hub. Charlie and I enjoy having our office there; it is so much more accessible than being on the top floors. Room 105, (the old ICT room) is now the year 4 and up Music room. The Seniors now have a common room, which is equipped with the desktops from the ICT room.
We have had 8 days with staff at school, undertaking professional learning and preparing for the year. Teachers and assistants have made their classes and display boards bright and welcoming. Classes have made a good start, with teachers and students working well. I am particularly impressed with how well the new staff and students have settled in.
